Glastonbury 2010 was stunning.   The site looked great, the performances were wonderful, the sun shone, and the level of trade was good - all in all, our fortieth anniversary was a record breaker. So many traders upped their game in terms of presentation and the improvements in the way some stalls looked was great.  Definitely something to build on!
We have the same licensed audience figure for 2011, and from the level of interest shown recently, we can confidently expect another sell out.  If you want to join us at Worthy Farm in 2011 please complete the application form below and submit it online, with supporting photographs. When applying, please remember that in your planning, as it is important to reduce the number of vehicles on site, that traders must use the wholesale market whenever possible.  This year I stopped access to some deliveries that turned up at the gates without prior approval, and will be doing that again.
Applications must be made before 3rd January 2011.   All applicants will be informed if they have been successful, or not, during February, with payment due by 1st April.
The licensing authority's report was positive about the markets with most aspects of safety and hygiene being reported upon favourably.  Issues were raised about how traders managed Noise at Work, Working at Height, Smoke free legislation, and most importantly, the Fire Service identified that some traders had opened to the public without having their risk assessment checklists signed off by market staff.  This is a serious breach of licence conditions and must not be repeated.
Noise at Work issues are explained by checking out www.hse.gov.uk/noise/advice.htm  . Too much loud noise can affect anyone who works in a loud environment. In practice this includes traders and others working in arenas and near venues. Traders are required by law to consider what information, protection and support they provide to staff regarding noise hazards.
Working at Height is still very much on the local authority agenda, so make sure you bring a secure ladder if your staff need to carry out any work at height and that they take all appropriate precautions.  If they have to put up banners, or lights please ensure they follow sensible good practice before during and after the Festival.
The Smoke Free legislation has been in place for three years now.  In 2011, stalls not displaying the statutory A5  'no smoking' sign will be closed down and served a Fixed Penalty Notice by the Licensing Authority.  It's not difficult for traders to get it right - to download the sign you require check out http://www.smokefreeengland.co.uk/filesa5_sign_sf_premises.pdf
Again we are asking food traders to identify in their application a product which will be their 'best buy'. This is not necessarily the cheapest item on the menu, although it may well be, but it could be a quality plated meal, or a particularly large portion size, which are great value for money. We will promote "best buy" on our website ask you to identify on your menu boards which is your 'best buy'.
Should you be unable to complete the form electronically, please send a manually completed application form to:  Traders Applications 2011, Glastonbury Festival Office, 28 Northload Street, Glastonbury, Somerset, BA6 9JJ. Tel. 01458 834596.
